As schools across Cameroon prepare for the long summer break, ISEC Cameroon concluded one of its final school environmental outreaches in Bamenda with an impactful engagement at Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Bangshie on Thursday, 21st May 2026.
Organized under our Green Earth Initiative and as part of the Bamenda Zero Waste Initiative, the outreach brought together more than 500 students aged 12 to 19 for an interactive environmental education session focused on waste management, circular economy practices, and climate action.

The outreach served as both a learning opportunity and a call to action — encouraging students to carry environmental responsibility beyond the classroom and into their homes and communities during the holiday period.
Across many communities in Cameroon, poor waste disposal and plastic pollution continue to pose serious environmental and public health challenges. At ISEC Cameroon, we believe that empowering young people with environmental knowledge is essential for building sustainable communities and creating long-term behavioral change. Through our Green Earth Initiative, we continue to engage students and young leaders with practical solutions that inspire environmental stewardship and climate responsibility.
The session at GBHS Bangshie began with an introduction to ISEC Cameroon and our mission to inspire, educate, empower, and sustain communities through environmental action and youth leadership. Students were then introduced to key concepts surrounding proper waste management and the importance of reducing pollution within schools and neighborhoods.

One of the major highlights of the outreach was the discussion on the circular economy — helping students understand that waste is not simply something to throw away, but something that can be reduced, reused, recycled, and transformed into valuable resources. Through practical examples and engaging discussions, students explored how everyday actions such as proper waste disposal, reducing plastic use, reusing materials, and maintaining clean surroundings can contribute to healthier and more sustainable communities.
To make the outreach engaging and memorable, the session also included interactive games, group participation activities, and open discussions that encouraged students to reflect on their role in protecting the environment. The enthusiasm and active participation from the students demonstrated the growing awareness and interest among young people to become part of environmental solutions in Cameroon.
Beyond awareness creation, the outreach aimed to inspire students to see themselves as future environmental leaders and changemakers. Many participants left the session with a stronger understanding of how their choices and actions can positively impact their communities and the planet.
The administration of GBHS Bangshie expressed appreciation for the initiative and welcomed opportunities for future collaboration and more in-depth environmental training programs.
As one of our final school outreaches before the summer break, the session at GBHS Bangshie was a meaningful reminder of the importance of investing in environmental education at the grassroots level. It also reflects ISEC Cameroon’s continued commitment to building a generation of informed, empowered, and environmentally conscious young people across Cameroon.
While schools may be closing for the academic year, the mission to protect the environment continues. We hope the students of GBHS Bangshie carry the lessons from this outreach into their homes, neighborhoods, and future actions — becoming ambassadors for sustainability within their communities.
At ISEC Cameroon, we remain committed to creating spaces where young people can learn, lead, and act for a greener future.
Together, small actions can create lasting impact. 🌍💚
