On September 5th, 2025, ISEC Cameroon proudly joined the Enhancing Green Accountability and Climate Governance Workshop at the EPIC Center in Bamenda. Organized under the CSO Climate Governance Platform, the event brought together civil society organizations, researchers, and local authorities to strengthen collaboration on climate governance in Cameroon. ISEC Cameroon was represented by Sharon Tafomba, ISEC Regional Coordinator for Bamenda, who actively engaged in the discussions and group sessions.

Why This Workshop Matters

Bamenda, like many parts of Cameroon, is already experiencing the negative impacts of climate change. Rising dust pollution, recurrent floods, landslides, and poor waste management are not just environmental concerns—they directly affect public health, livelihoods, and infrastructure. The workshop provided a timely space for stakeholders to exchange knowledge and design strategies to enhance climate resilience and accountability at the local and regional levels.

Key Takeaways from the Workshop

The workshop presentations and group activities focused on:

  • Understanding climate impacts in Bamenda: Participants reflected on how temperature changes, dust pollution, floods, and landslides are disrupting lives and ecosystems.

  • Strengthening waste management: Calls were made to address poor waste disposal practices, particularly in vulnerable areas such as Mile 8, Mankon.

  • Collaborative group sessions: Participants worked on three critical themes:

  1. Designing local transformative climate action plans with decentralized structures.

  1. Operationalizing CSO and NGO platforms on green accountability and climate governance.

  1. Lobbying for at least a 25% increase in climate-related budget allocations by municipal and regional councils.

Our Commitment Moving Forward

The CSO Climate Governance Platform is designed to empower civil society organizations to play a stronger role in climate governance through capacity building, advocacy, resource mobilization, and community empowerment
