On December 6, 2025, the ISEC Cameroon (Bamenda team) carried out a transformative outreach program that marked another important milestone in our mission to strengthen climate literacy and empower young environmental leaders across Cameroon. As part of our flagship Green Earth Initiative, we officially launched two new Environmental Clubs at Faith International Primary School (Mile 5 Nkwen) and Self-Reliant Primary School (Mile 4 Nkwen).
With a combined participation of over 150 pupils, the outreach focused on enhancing climate understanding, promoting environmental stewardship, and nurturing leadership among children who are eager to contribute to a greener future.

Building Climate Awareness from the Classroom Up
The sessions were designed to make climate science simple, interactive, and relatable to the pupils’ everyday experiences. During the outreach, students explored:
What climate change is
Causes such as deforestation, bush burning, unmanaged waste, and pollution
Effects including rising temperatures, irregular seasons, food shortages, water scarcity, and health risks
Practical adaptation actions, like planting trees, recycling, keeping their school clean, reducing waste, and staying hydrated during heatwaves
Through questioning, discussion, and recall exercises, pupils demonstrated strong retention from previous visits—an encouraging sign of growing environmental intelligence.
Launching Environmental Clubs: A Platform for Continuous Learning
At each school, the ISEC team introduced the purpose of the Environmental Club, outlining the activities students will engage in throughout the year. These include:
🌿 Plastic bottle recycling
🌿 School gardening
🌿 Tree planting
🌿 Keeping school grounds clean
🌿 Participating in eco-friendly challenges and projects
These clubs will serve as safe, active learning spaces where children can build environmental knowledge, collaborate with peers, and practice leadership through hands-on climate action.
Inspiring Leadership Through Student Elections
A key highlight of the outreach was the election of Environmental Club Prefects—young leaders chosen by their peers to guide club activities and promote a clean and sustainable school environment.
These prefects will help coordinate club meetings, assist in maintaining the school garden, encourage their peers to avoid littering, lead recycling and cleanup efforts, serve as role models in environmental stewardship
By providing leadership opportunities early, the clubs help students develop responsibility, confidence, and a sense of ownership over their environment.
The Impact: A Generation Ready to Lead
The enthusiasm, engagement, and leadership displayed by the pupils reaffirm the growing momentum of environmental consciousness among young people in Cameroon. For many of the children, this was their first opportunity to learn in-depth about climate change and to step into leadership roles within their schools.
Through the Green Earth Initiative, ISEC Cameroon is committed to:
Equipping students with long-term environmental skills
Embedding climate education into school culture
Nurturing young leaders who will shape a sustainable future
Expanding environmental clubs across more schools in the Northwest Region and beyond
These clubs mark not just the beginning of extracurricular activities, but the start of lifelong environmental journeys for hundreds of pupils.

Looking Ahead
ISEC Cameroon extends heartfelt appreciation to the administrators and teachers of Faith International Primary School and Self-Reliant Primary School for their support and collaboration. We are excited to continue working closely with these institutions to build vibrant, impactful Environmental Clubs.
As the Green Earth Initiative continues to grow, we remain committed to empowering young people with the knowledge, leadership skills, and community support they need to drive environmental change across Cameroon.
Together, we are building a generation that understands that every action matters.
