On November 18th, 2025, ISEC Cameroon (Team Bamenda) officially launched activities for the 2025/2026 academic year at Golden Star Academy Nkwen (Befi Mile 4). This milestone marks the continuation of our long-term commitment to strengthening environmental education and shaping environmentally conscious leaders across Cameroon—one school and one student at a time.

A Warm Welcome and Introducing ISEC’s Mission

The day began with a warm and energetic welcome from the school administration and students. Our team opened the session by introducing ISEC’s mission, vision, and the programs we run across Cameroon. We emphasized our dedication to empowering young people through environmental education, capacity building, and community engagement. This introduction helped students understand the important role they themselves can play in addressing environmental challenges in their communities.

Teaching Session: Understanding Climate Change

Our educational session centered on climate change—one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time and a key focus of our Green Earth Initiative school outreach curriculum.

  • Ngong Joycelinda led the students through the foundational concepts of climate change, breaking down what it is, how it happens, and why it matters. She helped students connect global climate issues to their everyday experiences, encouraging curiosity and understanding.

  • Munteh Neris expanded the lesson by explaining the causes of climate change. She highlighted both human-induced factors, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, as well as natural processes. Her session helped students appreciate the link between their actions and the broader environmental impacts.

  • Nchang Naomi then discussed the effects of climate change, painting a clear picture of how rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events affect lives and livelihoods—especially in communities like Bamenda. Her examples made the lesson relatable and urgent.

Together, these sessions ensured that students gained a comprehensive and engaging introduction to climate change, equipping them with knowledge they can build on throughout the year.

Interactive Learning: The “Who Am I?” Game

To encourage participation and reinforce learning, the team introduced an interactive game titled “Who Am I?”. In this activity, the facilitators described different climate change elements, contributors, or effects, and students eagerly attempted to identify them. This hands-on exercise fostered teamwork, boosted confidence, and created a lively learning environment where students could apply what they had just learned. It also allowed the facilitators to assess students’ understanding in real time.

Promoting Waste Management at the School

As part of our practical commitment to environmental action, we donated two waste bins to Golden Star Academy—one designated for biodegradable waste and the other for non-biodegradable waste. This initiative aims to promote better waste segregation practices within the school and support the development of responsible habits among students. Proper waste management is a critical aspect of environmental sustainability, and we were pleased to help the school take a meaningful step forward.

Setting the Foundation for an Environmental Club

Before concluding the visit, our team held a brief meeting with the school’s principal and club prefect to discuss establishing an environmental club on campus. The club will serve as a platform for continuous learning, leadership development, and hands-on environmental action. Through the club, students will participate in activities such as tree planting, clean-ups, recycling initiatives, environmental debates, and awareness campaigns.

The creation of environmental clubs in schools is a cornerstone of the Green Earth Initiative project and ISEC Cameroon’s broader strategy for youth empowerment. These clubs create long-lasting structures that promote environmental stewardship and ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn, lead, and act.

Looking Ahead

Our next visit to Golden Star Academy will focus on officially launching the environmental club and guiding students as they begin their activities for the year. We are excited to see the enthusiasm from both students and school leaders and are confident that this partnership will inspire active participation and sustainable impact throughout the academic year.

ISEC Cameroon remains deeply committed to promoting environmental education, youth leadership, and community-driven sustainability across the Northwest Region and beyond. With each school we engage and each student we inspire, we take one more step toward building a greener, healthier, and more resilient Cameroon.

We look forward to more impactful sessions, vibrant collaborations, and inspiring student-led initiatives in the months ahead
